Saul Bass was an American graphic designer and filmmaker best known for his kinetic film title sequences, film posters and logos. Bass’ distinctive minimalism redesigned the cinema experience, making film sequences go from a bore to an exciting work of art that supported those that worked on it. His work celebrated Bauhaus principles, creating impact without the need for complexity and prioritising meaning above all.

The Saul Bass Manifesto was the result of an RMIT project that required an exploration into a designer. With Saul Bass best known for his kineticism, it was only appropriate I follow through with a manifesto that pushed the limits of just a simple book.

  • minimalistic and symbolic design style for the graphics

  • focus on kinetic/interactivity

  • bold and restrained colour palette that focuses the colours Saul most commonly used in his posters

  • dynamic

  • textural/tactility
